Jasmine Barnes
Graphic Design Consultant
Jasmine Barnes is a sophomore at the University of Michigan pursuing a BFA in Art and Design with concentrations in graphic design and animation, complemented by a minor in UX/UI. Her practice merges creative exploration with intentional research, driven by a mission that design belongs everywhere, not just in expected spaces, but as a transformative tool that makes information more accessible and reveals design's essential role in the modern world.
Recently awarded the Pamela J. MacKintosh Undergraduate Research Award in the team category, Jasmine collaborated on an in-depth investigation into the life and legacy of artist Herman Kofi Bailey. She lead the project's digital creation, directing both the aesthetic vision and technical framework of the website while contributing substantial research and written analysis.
Within Michigan's design community, Jasmine serves as an active member of Alpha Theta Delta, a professional design fraternity, where she held the position of DEI Vice President throughout 2025, cultivating spaces of inclusion and support. She also contributes to SHEI, a student-run fashion magazine, as part of the graphic design team translating editorial concepts into compelling visual narratives.
Her professional journey includes an internship with Independent Sports and Entertainment from August 2023 to May 2024, pairing together athletic representation and visual marketing. She developed digital content for both clients and the agency and lent creative support across multifaceted initiatives. Having taken on freelance design commissions since high school, Jasmine brings years of client collaboration and independent project management to every endeavor.
Currently, Jasmine leads art classes for young students at the Ann Arbor YMCA, sharing foundational design principles and diverse techniques to spark creative confidence in the next generation. Whether through teaching, research, or design work, she remains committed to breaking down barriers—proving that thoughtful, accessible design has the power to reshape how we understand and interact with the world around us.
